Destruction is a semi-cooperation game for 2 to 4 players, involving team work to protect the world against one player inflicting damage. In this 1 Vs many game play, using worker placement and engine building mechanics, 2-3 players each take on a role and work together as the protection team, while another player takes on the role of the Crymanist. The game involves strategic thinking, tactics, engine building, worker placement and resource management. Cards and tokens are used throughout the game to create a good balanced mix.
Each region is affected by a particular type of natural force, so not all regions can be affected by the same type. This is also the same for protection centres, where there are 5 different types related to each of the natural forces.
The protection team (which can also be played with 1 player) must develop resources and then collect them to build protection centres from specific natural disasters that are being inflicted. These protection centres prevent the carnage delivered by the Crymanist. The team may also utilise the special forces to reduce the Crymanist worshippers.
The Crymanist must create worship groups to bring on carnage and decide which ones are best to develop during each stage of the game. The Crymanist must destroy either 6 regions by the end, while the protection team must save 6 regions.
